Engineer - Simulator

Responsible to provide Engineering on-site field support for the maintenance of designated aircraft Simulators.

Will also be responsible for:

1. Coordinate and provide on time, effective and efficient services to reduce down time and increase fleet readiness.
2. Conduct Simulator engineering related activities in overall system engineering context to assess requirements and provide solutions.
3. Provide Simulator level expertise to solve related maintenance problems and to improve readiness of the fleet aircraft.
4. To troubleshoot and rectify simulator software problems.
5. To plan, implement and accept, simulator equipment updates and software modifications.
6. To support the Training Planning teams in the development of Lesson Plans used to standardize the delivery of training on the Flight Simulators.
7. The role holder will be responsible for the implementation of complex software and hardware modifications simulators.
8. Integrate and accept manufacturer delivered software fixes & updates and play a critical role during the acceptance of new simulators.
9. Investigate and rectify simulator software bugs and deficiencies as directed by Line Manager.
10. Plan and implement software modifications required to support the delivery of pilot training on the simulators.
11. Plan and support the implementation of simulator hardware modifications required to support the delivery of pilot training.
12. Provide simulator and aircraft software SME support to the simulator maintenance team during the investigation of simulator system and hardware problems.
13. Support simulator quality control activities by work closely with Project Pilots and other subject matter experts to ensure training equipment objective and subjective performance continues to meet both regulatory and training requirements.
14. Provide SME support simulator to the Training Programs team during to production of Lesson Plans
15. Provide SME support simulator during regulatory audits and inspections.
16. Produce the presentations, action plans and follow-up reports required to support regulatory activities
17. Ensure all section are accountable for the accuracy, technical competence, content and overall quality of all deliverables prepared and submitted.
18. Support training delivery team and external customers with the production of simulator differences and limitation lists.
19. Mentor Simulator Engineers & Technicians as required.
20. Assist with the planning of new equipment procurements.
21. Assist other Functions in the implementation of configuration control and other technical implementation aspects, such as SB, service notices etc.
22. Prepare and submit Engineering documents such as, but not limited to, EREQ, Repair schemes, Evaluation reports, SoW, Engineering Dispositions and Instructions.
23. Work closely with and under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor - Simulator with regard to troubleshooting and servicing of Simulator systems.
24. Check and revise technical data to reflect the Simulator components current configuration and requirements with Technical Library.
25. Identify hardware and software configuration requirements for the Simulator.
26. Participate in support activities to Simulator activities at the base and coordinate with OEM and other functional groups as required.
27. Provide guidance to the customer on all matters related to Simulator maintenance, repair, replacement and modification.
28. Assist establishment of Simulator processes and similar technical standards for maintenance and repair associated equipment and components in conjunction with manufacturers, vendors and maintenance agencies when requested.
29. Maintain regular contact with technical departments of the customer(s) to remain abreast of any technical difficulties that arise on the aircraft support tasks.
30. Contact with OEM for the approval and resolution of engineering problems related to Simulators.
31. Provide evaluation and embodiment authorization for all OEM SB Technical Notices etc., as applicable.
32. Analyse related technical publications and manuals, work instructions, repair schemes, design data etc. to define and deliver the documentation required to perform Avionics engineering tasks.
33. Formulate applicable technological and theoretical models to analyse, develop, evaluate or modify designs according to customer’s engineering requirements compliant with relevant safety standards.
34. Recommend and deliver dispositions of Simulator engineering technical problems and/or technical reports and other documentation, such as handbooks and bulletins, for use usage, management and customers.
35. Evaluate and recommend alternatives for the selection of equipment applicable to Simulator.
36. Evaluate compliance of products with the appropriate quality or certification requirements and coordinate with the authority to meet/sustain the requirements.
37. Attend conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary to remain abreast of technical advances in the field of aviation with respect to the customers’ Simulator being supported by Program Manager.
38. Maintain contact with Engineering, Operations, Planning, Program and other departments for the technical activities requiring engineering input.
39. Provide technical solutions by, but not limited to:
- Consulting relevant technical documentation
- Liaising and getting support from engineering reach-back support sections
- Communicating with the aircraft manufacturer (OEM) and its vendors
- Designing a solution after gathering relevant details
40. Create Engineering Instructions to provide procedures for tasks not available in OEM publications.
41. Write Engineering Technical Report to inform management and the customer about important issues/defects/incident/events.
42. Provide technical (Engineering level) on-field support for Simulator maintenance issues
43. Monitor critical issues affecting overall readiness, support- ability and safety of the Simulator.
44. Communicate with the aircraft manufacturer (OEM) and its vendors for defect analysis, troubleshooting queries, suggestions and improvements.
45. Perform deferred defects case study.
46. Participate and support in troubleshooting complex issues.
47. Approve alternate P/N requests originating from Supply.
48. Compile, evaluate and present reliability issues affecting the Simulator.
49. Ensure Airworthiness of the Simulator by maintaining embodiment/modification database record and reporting back to the OEM.
50. Provide clarification/correct interpretation for technical documentation.
51. Review and recommend procedures and propose improvements to maintenance activities which require technical inputs.
52. Maintain liaison with the base manager, shop managers, OEM technical representatives etc. as necessary to insure specs, schedules, capabilities and limitations are properly understood.
53. Assist the ALHUR functional groups, i.e. business development in analyzing major programs/projects for future contracts.
54. Develop capability of tasks that can be performed in-house.
55. Obsolescence tracking, monitor obsolete parts and provide recommendations for future support.

Qualification
- Bachelor Degree in an Industrial, Aeronautical, Avionics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related engineering discipline from a recognized university. Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience
- Must have a minimum 10 years’ experience working in a flight simulation environment with 5 years spent as systems software engineer.
- Detailed understanding of the software modelling techniques used in flight simulation.
- In-depth understanding of software development methodology and configuration control.
- In-depth understanding of the qualification process applicable to Flight Simulators and associated Training Devices.
- In-depth understanding of aircraft systems.
- Material, manufacturing, testing, project management knowledge is a definite plus.
- Ability to conduct technical discussions on the process, material planning engineering aspects with customers, OEMs and suppliers.
